CASE STUDY EXAMPLE:
Pontifical Mission Societies – Midtown, NY | 665 SQFT / 62 SQM

The Pontifical Mission Societies (TPMS) in the United States, headquartered in Midtown, NY, serve as the national hub for the Vatican’s outreach and fundraising initiatives. Located on an entire floor of a recently converted commercial condo at 70 West 36th Street, this 665-square-foot space required a thoughtful design to support TPMS’s mission of global evangelization and humanitarian efforts. The project encompassed private offices, open workstations, support spaces, interconnected conference rooms, and a small chapel—the spiritual heart of the organization.

The design team from Bromley Caldari Architects collaborated with PK-30 System to craft an environment that not only met functional needs but also reflected the organization’s spiritual ethos and operational goals. With aesthetics, performance, and customization at the forefront, the result is a workspace that embodies TPMS’s commitment to fostering a global community.

Design Intent: Aesthetics and Performance

Throughout the office, PK-30 System’s innovative solutions were integral in achieving the design’s intent. The integration of PK-30’s wood panel doors added an elevated sense of elegance and warmth, aligning with the chapel’s serene aesthetic. These panels also contributed to improved acoustics, creating a tranquil atmosphere conducive to prayer and reflection. The durability and low-maintenance qualities of PK-30’s materials ensured that the space would retain its beauty and functionality for years to come.

Goals of the Project:

The overarching goal of the project was to create an inspiring environment that supports TPMS’s mission while fostering collaboration among staff. Key objectives included:

  • Operational Efficiency: Developing a layout that promotes seamless collaboration and maximizes the use of available space.
  • Aesthetic Alignment: Creating a workspace that embodies the organization’s values and enhances the well-being of its team.

PK-30 System’s flexible customization options allowed the team to tailor the design to these objectives, providing bespoke solutions that met both the practical and symbolic needs of the project.

The Role of PK-30 System:

We partnered with the design team to bring their vision to life. Our demountable panels and operable-flexible partition systems were instrumental in:

  • Customization: Tailoring designs to seamlessly integrate into the space’s spiritual and collaborative elements.
  • Aesthetics: Delivering wall systems that maintain their timeless quality and appeal over time.
  • Low Maintenance: Ensuring that upkeep is minimal, allowing TPMS to focus on its mission rather than facility concerns.
Conclusion:

The Pontifical Mission Societies’ headquarters is more than an office—it is a space that embodies purpose, community, and faith. The collaborative effort between Bromley Caldari Architects and PK-30 System resulted in an environment that supports TPMS’s global mission while providing a sanctuary for daily worship and reflection.

Office Space Occupying an entire floor in a recently converted commercial condo, this office is the national headquarters of the Pontifical Mission Societies, the Vatican’s outreach, and fundraising organ. The space is fitted out with private offices, open-area workstations, support spaces, and a series of interconnected conference and meeting rooms leading to a small chapel. The chapel is an important part of the design program as the Monsignor says Mass daily. A cross motif is expressed at the chapel ceiling and with a wood cross behind the altar decorated with a Maltese crucifix, a gift from the builder. This new woodwork, implying a nave at the end of the chapel, was finished to match the Monsignor’s altar, pulpit, and chairs.
