CASE STUDY:
Boston Consulting Group Office, Downtown Minneapolis, MN

Project Overview

The Boston Consulting Group’s (BCG) downtown Minneapolis office exemplifies innovative design rooted in the company’s global culture while embracing local identity. Designed by Perkins+Will, the 20,000-square-foot space doubles the size of BCG’s previous office, creating room for future growth and fostering collaboration among team members. The office combines modern refinement with natural, Midwestern aesthetics, showcasing locally sourced wood, moss walls, and expansive city views. PK-30’s interior glass wall system played a pivotal role in achieving the project’s openness and functionality, integrating seamlessly into the sophisticated design.

Design Challenge

BCG sought to create an inspiring space that reflected its global standards while embracing the spirit of Minnesota. The vision included:

  • A collaborative environment that encourages teamwork and innovation.
  • A design that uses natural materials to evoke an “up-north” feel.
  • Sleek, functional elements that align with Scandinavian-modern aesthetics.
  • Flexible spaces to accommodate future growth and diverse work styles.
Custom Solutions

Fabricating two 12-foot-wide sliding doors posed a significant engineering and manufacturing challenge—demanding precise tolerances, structural integrity, and a flawless finish at an uncommon scale. PK-30 was selected for its proven ability to deliver complex, large-format solutions without compromising on performance or aesthetics. Our engineering team developed a specialized fabrication and assembly approach to ensure the doors maintained structural rigidity while operating with a smooth, effortless glide.

These oversized sliding doors not only serve as a functional divider but also as a defining architectural statement—allowing users to transform their space with ease while reinforcing the project’s refined, Scandinavian-modern design language. With a minimalist profile and exceptional performance, they exemplify how PK-30 merges innovation, craftsmanship, and design into a seamless, user-focused solution.

Results
  • Maximizing Natural Light and Openness:

The transparency of PK-30’s glass walls preserved the natural light and openness of the office, highlighting its expansive views of downtown Minneapolis. These features amplified the collaborative atmosphere while maintaining the refined, polished look BCG required.

  • Tailored to Perfection:

PK3-0 collaborated closely with Perkins+Will to ensure every component met the office’s design and performance goals. From specifying materials to addressing spatial nuances, PK-30 delivered precision-engineered solutions tailored to the project’s needs.

The completed office exceeded BCG’s expectations, providing a collaborative, visually stunning space that embodies the company’s culture and regional identity. Key outcomes include:

  • Enhanced user experience through effortless, elegant glass sliding doors.
  • A harmonious blend of openness and privacy, supporting various workstyles.
  • A design that celebrates natural materials and local craftsmanship.
